Fontvieille is Monaco's modern quarter, lifted from the sea in the 1970s and laid out with more room to breathe than anywhere else in the country. The marina, the Princess Grace Rose Garden, the parks and the slower streets give it a rhythm closer to a coastal town than a financial centre – a few minutes from the heart of the Principality, and a world calmer.

It is the most family-held part of Monaco. Apartments tend to be larger, the buildings more recent, and the everyday life – the shopping centre, the schools, the green space – is built around residents rather than visitors.
